About the Lab

The Navy established the Naval Safety Command (formerly Naval Safety Center) in 2022 to improve risk management culture by enhancing our ability to identify, communicate and account for risk.

What is unique about this lab?

This is a unique opportunity to conduct cutting edge research that will directly impact the safety of the fleet. Interns will have access to a plethora of historical and current mishap data and help guide processes for preventing the next mishaps.

What will I do any given day as an intern at this lab?

NREIP interns will split their time between the data analytics department and the aeromedical department, where they will explore data on aviation mishaps and be able to use that data to form models of mishap prediction. Additionally, they will examine the ergonomics of various platforms and the connection to mishaps. Interns will also be involved in examining the way reporting methods impact data collection during mishap investigation and reports.
